Calling all Year 8's!

• Are you interested in Archaeology?
• Do you want to find out more about our local history?
• Do you want to take part in real excavations?

Do you want the opportunity to gain a 2nd Year Archaeological Degree Credit in “Practical Excavation” from Cambridge University and work with Carenza Lewis from Time Team?

Bedfordshire East Schools Trust is proud to announce the formation of the BEST Archaeological Society.

Activities for the year

• A day trip to Cambridge University Archaeological department, practical archaeology activities and to visit its archaeological and anthropological museums.
• A 3x day excavation of one of our schools playing fields.
• A 3x day excavation with Cambridge Higher Education
• Field Academy, in a local village, working to a universally accepted code of excavation and reporting standard. (Qualification from Cambs Uni Arch dept)
• Visiting speakers, research activities and ideas suggested by you – its members!

Cost

BEST has awarded the society a secured amount of funding for this year – so costs to you, the student, will be minimal for each event.

How to apply

We can only accept fifteen Year 8 students from each BEST middle school (Henlow, Etonbury and Robert Bloomfield).

If you are interested please send a letter of application to the Chairman of the BEST Archaeological Society stating:

• Why you wish to join?
• What can you bring to the society that is different from anyone else?
• What skills, qualities and strengths do you have that distinguish you from other applicants?
