Young People's Leadership Launch 15th November 2011 09:00

Ian Kite, BEST CEO, recently attended a launch at the House of Commons to celebrate Young People's Leadership.

The University of the First Age (UFA) organised the ‘Lead it!’ event, which included a keynote address by Minister Tim Loughton.

UFA provides young people with opportunities that develop their skills and capacities to support others with their learning, design and run learning activities and exercise leadership in their schools, communities and in the UFA.

UFA Student leadership courses give young people the opportunity to develop and explore their leadership skills based around a series of modules that include 'Leading Self and Others', 'Accountability', 'Project Management' and 'Shaping the Future'. The UFA was originally commissioned by NCSL to co-develop and co-write the leadership programme Students of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow, trialling it with over 700 young people. It mirrors the Head Teacher Leadership Course.

The course can be delivered in a two-day or three-day version. We can either deliver it to students using UFA staff or we can train and support your staff to deliver it and leave you with a copy of the resources. We can also train older groups of young people to act as facilitators for their peers and support the delivery of the course. We know from our evaluations that whatever option you choose your young people will gain a high quality leadership experience. Why not train members of your school council or develop leadership project for young people.
