Community Allotments 05th December 2011 02:48

Landshare has been working with BEST to find available educationally redundant land in our schools for allotments.

BEST has funded the creation of allotments at Etonbury Academy, Robert Bloomfield Academy, Samuel Whitbread Community College and Langford Lower School where children have been able to work with the community to grow vegetables and share in their produce.

Students have been able to watch their vegetables grow and eat them as snacks at break time or served as part of their school dinner. Some have also been able to sell produce to parents by holding a vegetable market after school. It is a valuable learning experience for the children to work with keen gardeners in our community.

Currently we have plots available at the Samuel Whitbread Community College, and we desperately need help with managing a plot too big for the students to manage alone. We have greatly appreciated help from a member of the community, but this is a huge task for one individual.

Please register your interest with Cathy Bailey at BEST on 01462 811519 or email best@swcc.beds.sch.uk

BEST ensure all community help is CRB checked and aim to make access as easy as possible, though there are restrictions to access at certain times. Please feel free to call for further information.
